Ship loss
Early accessCitadel is still in development. Numbers and rules on this page can change between patches. Last checked October 2026.
When a ship is destroyed in a Breach, the hull is gone. What happens to everything aboard depends on where it was and what it was.
The tutorial's version: "Fit out the rest of your ship however you like. Just know, anything aboard is lost if you die."
What is kept and what is lost
| Item | What happens |
|---|---|
| Anything of Faction quality, fitted or in cargo | Destroyed. It is neither kept nor dropped. |
| A fitted module carrying the safe cipher | Kept. It is moved to your hub stash. |
| Any other fitted module | Goes into the wreck, where anyone can take it. |
| A cargo item lying entirely on secure hold cells | Kept. |
| A cargo item lying partly on secure hold cells | Kept by chance: the share of its cells that are secure is the chance. |
| A cargo item carrying the safe cipher | Kept. |
| Any other cargo item | Goes into the wreck. |
| The hull | Lost. |
The safe cipher is the Tek Cipher named Lucky Cigarettes. A module needs a port to hold it.
The wreck
The wreck is a physical object in the breach. Other players can loot it, and so can you if you get back to it.
After a loss
Kept items are returned to your hub stash. If you are left in a hub with no hull, you are issued a free Seraph at Faction quality.
During the Faction war, losing a faction-issued ship also costs Merits and sends you back to your faction's hub.
